Wednesday, April 13, we had to go to Eindhoven and took James with us. We decided to pay a visit to our Southern neighbors and to go to the ''Lommelse Sahara,'' a beautiful nature reserve just across the border in Belgium. The weather was beautiful, the sun was shining and it wasn't too hot. We decided to take the red route to get to the water. It was very quiet and James was off-leash, so he could run and play as much as he wanted, even though it is not allowed in Belgium to let your dogs run free. Sadly, we went the wrong way and arrived at a street, so James had to go on-leash for a short time. Gladly, we found the right way soon enough and after an hour, we arrived at the most beautiful part of the Sahara. James couldn't believe what he saw; he was walking in front of us on a hill and suddenly spotted the water. And there he went! He ran to the water to cool off and swim. There were several dogs playing, but everything went fine. James listens very good now and he even comes to me when I call him when he is sniffing at another dog. We decided to go sit in the sun along the waterline, so James could swim and play with his toys. He loved it and enjoyed it so much! After an hour spending there we decided to go, but lost the route again... Gladly, we parked our car close to a canal and decided to follow the canal. We walked in the forest, but could see the canal right next to us. After walking for almost an hour, we were back at the car. We had a drink at a restaurant and James behaved so well, just lying there with his eyes almost closed. We walked for almost three hours and it was great! It's a wonderful area to walk your dogs, too bad it's not closer to us...
Woensdag 13 april 2011 moesten we even in Eindhoven zijn en besloten daarna eens naar de Lommelse Sahara te rijden, een prachtig natuurgebied net over de grens in België. Het weer was prachtig, de zon scheen volop en het was niet te warm. We besloten de rode route te lopen om zo bij de zandverstuiving en de vennen uit te komen. Het was heerlijk rustig en James kon los volop rennen en spelen, ook al mag in België officieel nergens de hond los. Helaas liepen we verkeerd en kwamen we bij een weg uit, dus moest James eventjes aan de lijn. Gelukkig vonden we al snel de weg terug en kwamen na een uur lopen bij het mooiste gedeelte van de Sahara uit. James keek zijn ogen uit; hij liep voorop over een heuveltje en zag opeens het water liggen. Daar ging hij! Hij had het best warm gekregen, dus hij was wel toe aan even afkoelen en zwemmen! Er waren nog enkele honden aan het spelen, maar dat ging allemaal prima. James luistert fantastisch en ik kan hem tegenwoordig zelfs bij honden wegroepen als hij aan het snuffelen is! We besloten een tijdje langs de waterkant te gaan zitten, heerlijk in het zonnetje, zodat James lekker kon zwemmen en spelen met zijn balletjes en de frisbee. Prachtig vond hij het, hij genoot volop! Na een uurtje besloten we weer verder te gaan, maar helaas verloren we weer de route uit het oog. Gelukkig hadden we geparkeerd aan een kanaal en besloten dat te volgen. Wij liepen in het bos, maar konden zo wel het kanaal in de gaten houden. Na driekwartier lopen kwamen we inderdaad weer bij de auto uit. We hebben nog even op het terrasje wat gedronken, en James ging lekker liggen. Al met al zijn we bijna drie uur op pad geweest en wat was het fijn! Een prachtig gebied om te wandelen, jammer dat het niet dichterbij is…
